1916-1992. Philipson studied at Edinburgh College of Art, later becoming a lecturer and Head of Drawing & Painting there. His early works were mainly of landscapes, still lifes and interiors, whereas his later pieces took on a more figurative approach. He is known for his strong use of colour and had many solo exhibitions in Edinburgh and London. His work is held in numerous collections throughout the UK.
