Euan Uglow (1932-2000) was a British painter and sculptor. He trained at Camberwell School of Art and then the Slade, under William Coldstream. He studied alongside Craigie Aitchison, Michael Andrews and Howard Hodgkin, and won a prize which included a scholarship to Spain. He was influenced by Coldstream, as well as Victor Pasmore, and looked to early European art, particularly 15th century Italian works and Giacometti.
After leaving art school he taught part-time at Camberwell, St. Albans and the Slade. He travelled widely, teaching and painting, in the Mediterranean, Egypt, India and China. A highly distinguished Post-War artist, Uglow "transformed figurative painting, subjecting perception to an unprecedented rigorous and meticulous scrutiny" (Piano Nobile).
He exhibited in the UK and overseas, and his works are in numerous public and private collections, including the Tate, the Arts Council and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
