1923-2012. Born Yorkshire and won a scholarship to Leeds School of Art. He then went on to study at the Ruskin School of Art in Oxford, followed by the Slade in London. He became a well known portrait artist and lectured at Glasgow School of Art, where he taught well-known artists such as John Byrne, Alison Watt and Stephen Conroy.
