Henry Kondracki

Henry Kondracki RSA is a Scottish artist, born in Edinburgh. He studied at Byam Shaw School of Art, London (1981-1982), and then at the Slade School of Art (1982-1986). Since then he has exhibited in London, Edinburgh and Glasgow and is a regular exhibitor at Compass Gallery and Gerber Fine Art, Glasgow.

He says of his work "Ultimately, making any kind of statement about my work is difficult, for my work is a process of discovery, my aim to venture into uncharted territory; to set out a plan for my journey would ruin the adventure. Back in 1992 I said that ‘I build images that are a synthesis of thought, memory, emotion, fact and fiction’ and twenty years on I still try and adhere to this. So others are probably better than me at capturing some of my aims throughout my career and summing up my work generally".

He has received the Cheltenham Drawing Prize (1999), the Hunting Art Prize (2004) and has twice been the recipient of the Slade Fine Art Prize. His work has been widely exhibited in the U.K and abroad, and his work is in a number of private and public collections including Glasgow Museums and Manchester City Art Gallery.
