Ian McKenzie Smith (CBE FRSA RFSE PPRSA HRA HRHA). Studied at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen and was later the Director at Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums, and City of Aberdeen Arts and Recreation Officer (1968-1996). His work displays a continuing commitment to a distinctly personal brand of landscape based abstraction: a subtle evocative way of painting that looks to Eastern traditions, as well as the American colour-field painters of the 1950’s.
