James McBey

1883-1959. Aberdeenshire artist, trained at Gray's School of Art. Taught himself etching and built his own press. Travelled abroad to Morocco and during World War 1, became an official war artist. During this time he was in Egypt and the Middle East. He went to America, where he married and the couple settled in Morocco, where McBey felt at home. Many of his works were made there. He had an excellent sense of draughtsmanship and was very sensitive in the works he produced.
