1902-1971. Born in London, he studied under Bernard Meninsky at the Vincent Square art school and then in Paris, and was influenced by the Vorticists. He set up a studio in Fitzroy Street and started designing for the Hogarth Press and Sadler's Wells. He was drawn to the Surrealist movement which influenced his work for the rest of his career.
