Sir Stanley Spencer RA

1891-1959. Spencer studied at the Slade School of Art in London, and became known for his figurative works, which were often set in his home village of Cookham. Although he also painted landscapes, he is remembered for his multi-figure compositions, a number of which he was commissioned to do in relation to World Wars I and II. As his style developed, his colour palette became more muted, although his attention to detail remained.
