1858-1943. Scottish artist trained at Glasgow School of Art and who later became part of the group of artists known as The Glasgow Boys. His style was rich and decorative in colour and as well as painting landscapes, he also did portraits. He spent time in Japan with Hornel, after which his work showed an Oriental influence. He was a member of the Royal Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Scottish Society for Painters in Watercolour.
