Othon Friesz

1879-1949. French artist of the Fauvist movement. Studied with Dufy in Le Havre before moving to Paris where he met Matisse and Roualt. After a short while he discovered that his style was more rooted in traditional art and his painting took on a more sober palette. Most well known for his landscapes, but painted still lifes and figures.
